One rescued from kidnappers

DIMAPUR — Personnel of Sovima Police Station rescued one person identified as Abdul Kayum Talukdar, GB of Dimapur New Market area, from the clutch of three kidnapers on September 29.

A police report issued by the deputy commissioner of police (crime) and PRO stated that Talukdar was rescued during MVCP at Singrijan/ Selouphe from one Maruti Alto car without number plate. It stated that on checking the vehicle, four occupants were found inside the car and on enquiry of their identity, three of the occupants revealed themselves to be from NSCN (IM), while the fourth person was identified as Abdul Kayum Talukdar.

It stated that one person escaped under the cover of darkness during checking of the vehicle, who was later identified by his colleagues as ‘ss’ captain Ahor Tangkhul.

On spot interrogation, Abdul Kayum Talukdar revealed that he was forcibly kidnapped from near Hotel Theja Fort in Burma Camp and being transported in the said car.

Report stated that the rescued victim was handed over to the family members in the presence of New Market Business Owners’ Association (NMBA).

It added that two persons identified as ‘ss’ captain Masalepzuk (40) from Kantsung village under Tuli sub-division in Mokokchung district and resident of Rongmai Colony in Burma Camp, and ‘ss’ Lieut. Isacar Swu (39) from Khughuto village in Zunheboto district and resident of 4th Mile area near Agri Expo were arrested. It further stated that a case has been registered at East Police Station, Dimapur, under relevant sections of law.

Two arrested with heroin

Excise personnel manning Khuzama inter-state check gate seized 500 gm of suspected heroin worth more than INR 20 lakh at market price from a truck.

It stated that the truck driver tried to evade detection and threw the bag containing the suspected drugs, which landed on in-coming vehicle from opposite direction.

It stated that the bag was seized by the duty party and apprehended the driver along with other accomplice.

It stated a case in this regard has been registered against Taveilinu Chao (23) and Pavei (23) for violation of section 8 of NDPS Act.
