CVOA warns of ‘Chakka bandh’ over outstanding payment

MOKOKCHUNG — The Commercial Vehicle Owners Association (CVOA), Mokokchung, has served a seven-day ultimatum to the Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, over the delay in payment for services rendered by the association during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly election earlier this year. 

The CVOA in a press conference held at the office of the All Nagaland Taxi Association, Mokokchung unit, on Wednesday, also warned of a “Chakka bandh” of commercial vehicles within Mokokchung district if their demand for immediate payment was not fulfilled.

The association clarified that payment for vehicles requisitioned by the district administration for the purpose of transporting officials and equipment to various polling stations, which were used for shorter periods of three days or more, has already been settled.

Its demand was the outstanding payment relating to the transportation of security personnel for periods ranging from one to three months, which comes under the purview of the Superintendent of Police.

The association also informed that it had verbally appealed to the authorities on multiple occasions, and even submitted a representation on June 22. But despite the passage of three-four months, it has so far not received any response.

The ultimatum expressed resentment over the “continued indifference towards our appeal for timely disbursement of commercial fares incurred during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election duty in the month of February 2023.”

The CVOA members insisted on the full disbursement of all dues accrued for their services within seven days of the ultimatum. They also resolved to accept only pre-paid payment for their services during the Lok Sabha Election 2024, if their services are required.

They, further, caution that in the event of failure to comply with their demands within the stipulated seven-day timeframe, they cautioned to impose a “Chakka Bandh” on commercial vehicles within Mokokchung District.
