New team of NPF Manipur state unit takes oath

KOHIMA — Secretary General of Naga People’s Front (NPF) Achumbemo Kikon, who is also a sitting legislator in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, on Thursday said NPF was formed during a very crucial period of the Naga history, keeping in mind that the regional party should truly represent the Naga people and their aspirations.

The regional party’s secretary general was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly appointed office bearers of the NPF Manipur state unit for the tenure 2024-2028 held at the party’s central office in Kohima.

Kikon reminded that the pioneers of the party kept in mind that the regional party will truly represent the Naga people – their aspirations, culture, tradition and identity.

Recalling the formation of the oldest regional party in the Northeast in 1963, he said the party changed its nomenclature over the years, befitting the situation.

He expressed delight that the NPF Manipur state unit has been living upto the mark as the unit had not failed the party from day one of its formation, nor had it deviated from the principle of the party.

Kikon said that when the party was initially launched in Manipur, some sections had apprehension that it will be a communal party. However, the party has proved the skeptics wrong as the NPF does not represent the interest of the Naga people alone but also the grievances and aspirations of the entire struggling people in the Northeast region, he said.

The regional leader also informed that the NPF party is convening its general convention on October 21 at Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima.

Manipur cabinet minister and president of NPF Manipur state unit, Awangbow Newmai, in his address, acknowledged the party leadership for reposing faith in him and re-electing him for a consecutive tenure.

He said the party unit has proved that the NPF talks about peace and stands by it.

Newmai also informed that the NPF, as part of the ruling government in Manipur, is trying to maintain peace to bring back normalcy.

He further maintained that the NPF central office had made its stand clear that in the event of any arrangement to be made, the Naga- inhabited areas should not be touched, and that

The minister disclosed that earlier 10 MLAs including five Naga MLAs and the outer Manipur MP met the Union Home Minister on June 7, where they conveyed their stand very clearly.

On the occasion, the NPF secretary general administered oath of office to the newly elected office bearers of NPF Manipur state unit for the tenure 2024-2028.

The new NPF Manipur unit is headed by Awangbow Newmai as president; Paul Muinao, K Raina and Woba Joram (working presidents); Khanthuanang Panmei, Siile Anthony, Namsinrei Panmei,. Maranchan Luilcham, Jason S Pheirim and Sanii Mathew (vice presidents) and Honreikhui Kashung, Kh. Armstrong Charang, R Aripou and Worthing_Horam as general secretaries.

The women and youth wings are led by Sylvia Rimai and Wungnaoshang A Shimray as presidents, respectively.
