KOHIMA — Admission to the 100 MBBS seats at the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) for the academic year 2023-24 has closed as both the reserved and all-India quota seats have been filled up.

Dean-cum-director of NIMSR, Dr. Soumya Chakraborty, informed Eastern Mirror on Sunday that a total of 15 seats for all-India quota were filled up by students from six states including six students from Rajasthan, two each from Jharkhand, Bihar and Haryana and one each from Kerala, Assam/Manipur and Madhya Pradesh.

The 85 seats reserved for Nagaland students had already been filled up and admission closed on August 28.

With the 100th admission to the first MBBS batch of students at NIMSR for academic year 2023-2024 done on Sunday, Chakraborty said the admission process is completed.

The dean also disclosed that a lot of medical colleges in other states are still struggling to get the full strength of MBBS students in the central government, state government or private-run medical colleges.

It may be mentioned that classes for the first batch of MBBS students at NIMSR commenced on September 1, even as the all-India quota admission was continuing.

The official launching of the state’s first medical college is still awaited after it was postponed from the earlier scheduled date, which was on September 6.
