After John’s apology over remark, Achumbemo Kikon seeks closure
DIMAPUR — In regards to the controversial statement made recently by the minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Village Guards, C L John, during the recently concluded state assembly session, MLA Achumbemo Kikon has appealed to the Naga people to put the matter to rest.
Kikon said during the monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting of Wokha district, which was held on September 15 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Satsuphen, that the minister already apologised and that ‘to err is human, but to forgive is divine.’
Kikon had raised the issue of human-elephant conflict in Wokha district during the recently concluded state assembly session, as the issue concerns his constituency and the people of Wokha.
He stated that in a parliamentary democracy, when a member raises an issue, the minister in charge is required to respond to the member’s questions. While responding, John unintentionally and inadvertently hurt the sentiments of many people. Kikon, however, reminded everyone that they had all seen that John had already tendered an unconditional apology.
Advisor for Agriculture and chairman DPDB Wokha, Mhathung Yanthan, and MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe also attended the meeting.
Yanthan lauded the activities of KVK Wokha and urged all agri and allied departments to collaborate with the KVK, adding that a committed institution like KVK, which has so many facilities, technologies, and activities, should be supported. He urged all to work in tandem with the centre to see that progress and development, especially in the farming sectors in the district, are growing from strength to strength.
Humtsoe, while thanking the KVK for hosting the meeting, assured the centre that, in his own capacity, he would improve the approach road from the KVK Centre to NH2.
Ajit Kumar Ranjan, DC and vice-chairman of DPDB Wokha, led the agenda of presentations and orientation on Elder Line 14567 for senior citizens. State programme manager Neithonuo Leigise also discussed Elder Line Nagaland, a helpline for senior citizens aimed at quickly addressing their complaints and grievances.
On the occasion, KVK Wokha in-charge and senior scientist Dr. Moa Akhum highlighted activities of KVK in the district, stating that the KVK Wokha centre was established in 2006 and is manned by six specialists, and that the objective of KVK in the district is to disseminate information to farmers on farm trails, front line demonstrations, capacity building training, and vocational training to help farmers improve productivity.
Yanthan, Humtsoe, Kikon, and Ranjan also jointly released a booklet on the compendium of activities under the ETF during the meeting.
The board during the meeting recommended the registration of the Mt. Morarashan Club, Riphyim Society, reviewed aspirational villages, and deliberated on preparations for the celebration of the golden jubilee of Wokha district.
