Nagaland Tenyimia women form a union

DIMAPUR — The presidents and general secretaries of the five apex tribal women organisations of the Tenyimia of Nagaland comprising Chakhesang, Pochury, Rengma, Zeliangrong and Angami held its first meeting at the AWO Building in Kohima on September 15 and formed a new organisation called ‘Tenyimia Women Union Nagaland’ (TWUN).

According to the union, the main aim of TWUN was to foster better understanding, unity and cooperation among the sister tribes.

The meeting was chaired by Zhovelu Tunyi, president of the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA), while the meeting proceedings were recorded by Chozhüle Kikhi, general secretary of Angami Women Organisation (AWO).

As decided on August 12 at Hotel East Gate after the ‘Solidarity prayer for violence against women and social unrest in Manipur,’ each tribe brought two women representatives as potential office bearers to lead TWUN for a period of three years.

During the meeting, the house appointed Zhonelu Tunyi as president, Ruokuoheü Miachieo and Apeuna Iheilung as vice presidents, Keshenle Seb as general secretary, Atono Nyuthe and Aluile Hegui as joint secretaries, Dievilhoutuonuo Thakro as finance secretary, Kuthozulu Rose as assistant finance secretary, Tiyale Semy as press secretary, Chiwiesa Nyuwi as treasurer.

The house also appointed Gwasule, Neikhwepeü Khalo and Neilhuzono Nagi as advisors.
