DIMAPUR — Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Akuluto block, Zunheboto, held an integrated pest management (IPM) training with an emphasis on cultural operations in coffee plantations at Coffee Farm School in VK town on August 31.
Resource person Kaboli Wotsa, ATM Akuluto block, explained on the occasion the principles of IPM and emphasised cultural operations in plantations to avoid pest and disease incidence, as well as measures for early detection and timely management of field operations.
According to a press release, a demonstration on ‘foliar application and uses of bio-pesticide neem oil’ was also given by Chubatsur, BTM Zunheboto block, as the resource person who explained the benefits of using neem oil and presented a hands-on demonstration on the preparation of neem oil solution.
The programme was attended by 13 participants and concluded with a group discussion and the distribution of hand sprayers, neem oil, and micronutrients.
A demonstration on the ‘value addition of pineapple’ was also held on September 4 at Phishumi Village, with Mutoka K Zhimomi, ATM Akuluto block, as the resource person.
During the event, a hands-on demonstration of pineapple juice preparation was given, and methods for increasing product shelf life using readily available household ingredients were discussed.
Kaboli Wotsa presented a demonstration on foliar and soil application of micronutrients (AMI-COP), explaining the uses and benefits and encouraging farmers to practise crop rotation and improved farming techniques.
A total of 13 participants attended the programme, which concluded with a group discussion and distribution of juice-making ingredients and micronutrients.
ATMA Akuhaito: ATMA Akuhaito block, Zunheboto, conducted a training and demonstration programme on the value addition of chilly pickles and demonstrated the practices of mulching on September 1 at Khrimtomi village.
During the training, resource person ATM Alovi Zhimo emphasised how to make chilly pickles and discussed the benefits, which include increased income, job creation, improved food safety, food security, and nutritional benefits.
ATM Vishepu showed how to prepare mulch using paddy straw and dried leaves as the resource person during the demonstration programme.
He went on to say that the reasons for applying mulch include conserving soil moisture, improving soil fertility and health, reducing weed growth, and improving the visual appeal of the area.
