DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSWC) has thanked the state government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, tribal hohos and civil societies of Nagaland for their support and commitment towards paving the way for implementing 33% reservation for women in the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) election.

It came after the state government held a consultative meeting with the tribal hohos and civil society organisations last week to discuss pressing issues, including the pending ULB election.

The NSWC said the resolute stance of the organisations “towards Gender Equality is commendable and demonstrates a progressive vision for Nagaland”.

“By overtly supporting this initiative, the tribal hohos and civil societies have not only shown their dedication to women’s empowerment in decision-making bodies but also their foresight in promoting inclusive governance. This move indicates a significant milestone in the journey toward a more equitable and representative democracy in Nagaland,” read the press release.

“W Nginyeih Konyak, Chairperson of NSWC, on behalf of the Commission and all the Naga women in general once again expressed deep gratitude to the government, tribal hohos and the civil society bodies for their valuable contribution and insight to the State’s development and social progress,” it added.
