DIMAPUR — District Health Society, Zunheboto, conducted a two-day district-level training on Mothers’ Absolute Affection (MAA) for healthcare workers at District Hospital’s conference hall in Zunheboto town on August 29 and 30.
An update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Zunheboto, the main purpose of the programme was to bring undiluted focus on promotion of breastfeeding and provision of counseling services for supporting breastfeeding through health systems.
The resource person of the training was Dr. Ivikali, medical officer at District Hospital, Zunheboto. She highlighted building an enabling environment for breastfeeding through awareness generation activities, targeting pregnant and lactating mothers, family members and society in order to promote optimal breastfeeding practices.
She also stressed on reinforcing lactation support and services at public health facilities through trained healthcare providers and skilled community health workers. She further elaborated on the key messages to be delivered to the mothers such as early initiation of breastfeeding and also the benefits of breastfeeding to the baby and mother.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Heto Swu, DPO (UIP&RCH), while the programme was chaired by Rosemary Vitoli, DPM (NHM).
It stated that community health officers, GNM and ANM attended the training.
