DIMAPUR — Despite the lift on the ban on poultry import following an agreement between the parties, miscreants continue to create problems on vehicles transporting poultry birds into Nagaland.

The president of Poultry Union Dimapur (PUD), Tiameren Aier, informed that on August 31, around midnight, seven vehicles transporting a consignment of broiler chickens en route to Nagaland were intercepted by unidentified individuals who arrived in a white Bolero vehicle at Sukhanjan in Assam.

Aier stated that the drivers were asked to produce their permit documents and instructed to resume their journey towards Nagaland only after 4 am. He added that upon receiving information, PUD officials rushed to the site around 12:30 am but the miscreants fled the scene sensing their arrival.

Quoting one driver, Aier informed that Raja Rongphar was one among the miscreants who halted the vehicles and inspected documents. The president also mentioned that the consignment arrived in Dimapur at around 1:20 am. He added that a similar incident also happened on August 28.

It may be mentioned that the Poultry Union Dimapur had called for an indefinite ban on the import of live chicken from Assam to Nagaland starting from August 10 in protest against the syndicate system governing the supply of live poultry from Khatkhati, Assam. However, the ban on the import of live chicken from Assam to Nagaland was lifted on August 18 after a meeting with the Dimapur district administration on August 17 wherein the latter assured to actively pursue the matter.
