DIMAPUR — Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), in partnership with Health and Family Welfare and Social Welfare departments, conducted a one-day state-level sensitisation workshop on benchmark disabilities and identification of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the state on August 31 at Japfu Hotel in Kohima.
The workshop was organised as part of the SVEEP initiative to address the issues and challenges faced in regard to identification and registration of PwDs in the electoral roll and sensitisation of benchmark disabilities in the state. The main purpose of the workshop was to provide a platform for the three departments to come together to discuss key issues and to collectively work towards inclusive and accessible elections.
Diethono Nakhro, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, was the guest of honour of the programme.
The programme was chaired and moderated by Sharon Longchari, joint CEO, while the introductory address was delivered by Ruokuovituo Khezhie, CEO in-charge, and short speeches were delivered by Dr. Chekroshuyi Tetseo, director (dental) of health department, and Bodeno S Colo, additional secretary of Social Welfare department.
Resource persons were Awa Lorin, joint CEO; Apila Sangtam, state counsel from Social Welfare department, and Dr. Nitovi Shikhu, deputy director (nodal officer of disability) from Health department.
The workshop was attended by district level officers from Health and Family Welfare department and Social Welfare department from the various districts.
