KOHIMA — The Kewhira String Quartet, a string ensemble formed in 2021, performed live in front of a packed audience at the Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts, Jotsoma, in Kohima on Sunday.

Members of the Kewhira String Quartet are Zhavi Matthew Whourie and Thejasevor Kerhüo on the violins, Vikesonuo Pfükha Thono on the viola and Vilhoubeizo Kire on the cello.

All four members studied at Margaret Shishak School of Music (MSSM), where they developed a passion for creating music together.

Their primary goal is to inspire string ensemble music and nurture young talents in this field by helping to develop skills and push excellence to the limit. They also dream of performing across the nation and beyond.

Director of Music Academy Kohima, Khyochano TCK, disclosed that it took over 20 years to form the string quartet as the members started learning to play strings at a very young age.

They developed their skills and character over the years, Khyochano said and urged the people to support them.

Manager of the Kewhira String Quartet, Meneno Mesen, said that the concert started with a zero-budget plan. She added that the plan for the concert started a little over a month and this was the band’s first debut Kohima concert. They had earlier performed live at their alma mater MSSM, Patkai.

Guest artistes for the evening were Imsongdi Imsong, Noune Kuotsu and Peteruokuo Kuotsu.

The artistes played a variety of pieces which were well received by the audience.
