DIMAPUR — In an apparent case of homicide, a night watchman of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Purana Bazaar identified as Hozheto Yeptho was found dead early Thursday morning.
An officer from the East Police Station informed that the lifeless body was found in a pool of blood adjacent to the restroom at ISBT, when a shopkeeper went to the washroom at around 6 am.
He informed that the victim’s body bore injury marks on his chest, neck, ribs and forehead indicative of inflicted wounds from a sharp-edged weapon. It was suspected that the incident might have happened between 4 am and 5 am, the time when routine inspection is conducted in surrounding areas.
The officer informed that a case had been registered at the East Police Station and the body was handed over to the family members after conducting post-mortem examination. He added that no arrest has been made in connection with the incident.
While condemning the incident, the advisor of Land Resources, G Ikuto Zhimomi, stated that such a gruesome act of crime is not acceptable in a civilised society, no matter the intent and circumstances.
He appealed to the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned to book the culprit at the earliest and ensure justice for the bereaved family. He further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members.
In another statement, Purana Bazaar Tribal Council (PBTC), while condemning the murder, stated that the incident has created fear psychosis among the people and disturbed the peaceful atmosphere.
The council has appealed to the investigating agency to leave no stone unturned and book the culprit at the earliest and also requested the state government and the department concerned to provide adequate compensation to the widow and children of the victim in accordance with the laid down rules.
The council further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed soul.
