17 penalised in Mon for selling tobacco products near educational institutions
DIMAPUR — A surprise raid near educational institutions in Mon town was conducted on Wednesday, and 17 people were found in violation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA) 2003, Section 6, which specifically prohibits the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions.
According to a press release, the raid was a joint effort by the enforcement squad under the National Tobacco Control Programme, in collaboration with the Mon Town Students’ Union, and conducted to bolster the enforcement of Section 6 of the COPTA.
These offenders were promptly penalised in accordance with the relevant legal provisions, and the tobacco products, which were found in the possession of the defaulters, were subsequently confiscated and destroyed at the premises of the Mon Town Police Station
