Minister Paiwang Konyak visits District Hospital Mon

DIMAPUR — In view of the recent surge in dengue cases in Mon town, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak, accompanied by the district deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, chief medical office and Konyak civil societies, visited District Hospital Mon on Monday.

The minister who took a round of the hospital was also updated on the status of the patients admitted to the district hospital, an update stated.

Paiwang Konyak also enquired about the measures taken by the hospital to curb and treat the dengue patients.

Matters relating to the shortage of manpower, equipment, essential medicines and other logistics at the hospital were discussed.

During the discussion, the doctors and nurses briefed the minister on the shortage of manpower, equipment and medicines. The minister took note of the requirements and gave assurance for the deployment of doctors and nurses, and also the availability of required medicines.

He directed the CMO and medical superintendent and other medical staff to coordinate with the district administration, CSOs and NGOs for disseminating information and awareness regarding dengue cases.

The minister also urged civil societies for promoting the practice of blood donation to ensure the availability of adequate blood storage.

After the district hospital visit, Paiwang Konyak also conducted a review- cum-consultative meeting with the district administration, police, medical staff, HoDs and presidents of KU, KNSK, and KSU at DC’s conference hall.

During the meeting, important issues like the rising cases of dengue, conjunctivitis (eye flu), sanitation, cleanliness and the closing of schools were discussed in detail.

Schools in Mon town to shut for 5 days

After the meeting, it was decided to close all the schools in Mon town from August 22 to the 26th to prevent the further spread of conjunctivitis amongst students.

Further, the minister urged Konyak civil societies to extend necessary support to ensure cleanliness in the town area and collective fight against the rising cases. “Apart from above issues, road condition, monsoon preparedness, law and order and the initiative of war against drugs were also discussed,” it stated.
