DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles observed mass plantation week to contribute towards the green earth initiative, in which a total of 15,500 saplings were planted at various locations in Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon districts.

According to a press release, over a thousand villagers, including pastors, village council chairmen, GBs, ex-servicemen, and others from various fields, took part in the event and lauded the efforts of the Assam Rifles.

The youth were also motivated to plant a tree on their birthdays. The idea was well received by the youth, who pledged to take a small step towards ensuring a better future.

In Phek district, the Assam Rifles carried out a plantation drive by planting 12,000 trees in remote villages on a single day as part of the Go Green initiative to maintain and preserve the environment.

Remote border areas were also covered in collaboration with various village councils, government agencies, schools, and the forest department.

According to a press release, the initiative was undertaken not only to create greener belts across Phek’s cities, towns, and villages, but also to raise awareness among the youth about the importance of conserving nature and spreading the message of environmental balance.
