KOHIMA — Advisor for CAWD and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, on Thursday raised concerns during the monthly Phek District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting over the poor internet connectivity and telecom service in the state and particularly in the Phek district.

The meeting was held at the DPDB conference hall, Phek

According to an update from the advisor’s office, Kudecho Khamo stated that Nagaland is one of the worst states in the country when it comes to telecom service and that the service providers should either provide quality service or be removed, adding that crores of people’s money have been taken without service, which is also a crime.

“When the nation is talking about digital India, the state is very far behind,” he noted.

Lamenting the state’s poor telecom service, the advisor stated that it has caused untold inconveniences and hardships to the public, citing how a 10-minute task has to be completed in hours due to poor network issues, officers are unable to work on time, and students are unable to obtain study materials on time.

Kudecho Khamo said, “This is the biggest challenge we are facing in Nagaland.”

Kudecho Khamo believed that a better network and facilities would save the state time and energy. In this regard, he urged the state’s officers in charge to expedite their work and address the issues in order to provide quality service.

He also stated that the district administration and legislators will provide full support whenever necessary to ensure that the best service is provided in the district.

Kumar Ramnikant, deputy commissioner and vice chairman of DPDB Phek, who chaired the meeting, asked the various committees of the ‘50th Year of Phek District’ to submit their respective budgets at the earliest for necessary actions and also sought full cooperation for the success of the programme.

The Department of Urban Development, Phek, Phek Police, and the telecom service providers (Jio, BSNL, and Airtel) presented PowerPoint presentations on their activities during the meeting.

Cekhwulhu Nakro, sub-divisional engineer (Grp) BSNL Phek, stated in his presentation that the district’s commercial power supply has been irregular, affecting the service.

Despite the first priority of providing quality service, Nakro stated that the telecom service faces problems due to a lack of department stores and a shortage of technical staff, which results in delays in service restorations.

The meeting was also attended by Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, advisor for New and Renewable Energy, NSDMA, MLA Dr. Niesatuo Mero, and other district officials.
