DIMAPUR — Thousands of people from the Kuki tribe across Nagaland held a candlelight vigil and solidarity prayer for the affected Kuki-Zo people in ethnic strife-torn Manipur in Ahthibung town in Peren district on July 26.
The vigil was organised by Kuki Nute Kiloikhom Nagaland (KUKN), an apex organisation of Kuki women in Nagaland, in collaboration with several other civil society organisations.
An update from the Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland (KSON) stated that thousands of people joined in the peaceful programme with placards and posters condemning the violence against the Kuki-Zo tribals of Manipur.
It stated that the participants sympathised with the Kuki-Zo women, who were subjected to humiliation, sexual assault and even murder.
The participants have appealed to the Centre to deliver justice to the women, children and men of the Kuki-Zo community, who have fallen victim to the gruesome crimes of the majority Meitei community of Manipur.
The vigil concluded peacefully and dispersed after a prayer.
