In a press release, the NPCC stated that the village guards are the pride of the state, being the first line of defence in upholding peace, and added that from the remotest areas to the vast international borders, they tirelessly perform their duties with full sincerity, dedication and faith, yet receive little recognition.
“They are the first spearheads of security on the line of duty before the administration to safeguard the state’s law and order. Their services equipped with both modern and Naga traditional warrior warfare techniques, are much appreciated and sought out by the state government as equally as police services in times of state security emergencies,” the release read.
It mentioned that with no state function complete without their participation, the guards, which started as a primary grass-root security force, should not remain or be left as a permanent primary status.
The NPCC remarked that it would rather be the pride and honour of the state government if the village guards are given the due and deserving upgraded status in their service as well as their basic facilities.
