Nagaland police hands over 110 recovered mobile phones to owners

DIMAPUR — The East Police Station in Dimapur on Saturday handed over 110 mobile phones, which were recovered by the police after being reported lost or stolen, to the legitimate owners at a function held in the conference hall of Police Commissioner.

Speaking at the event, Dimapur Police Commissioner Kevithuto Sophie lauded the officers and police personnel for retrieving lost and stolen mobile phones.

He said that mobile phones have become indispensable but it becomes risky when it falls into the wrong hand, as “someone may gain access to your personal information and sensitive data stored on the device and can potentially lead to frauds, identity theft and other cyber crimes”.

While reminding the mobile phone users to ensure security of their devices in order to avoid being misused by anyone, he urged the gathering to share information on criminal activities in their localities so that the police can tackle crimes more effectively.

Vesupra Kezo, DCP Dimapur, highlighted various cyber crimes prevalent through mobile phones and urged the gathering to take preventive measures in order to ensure that they don’t become victims.

He also informed that citizens can report incidents of lost and stolen mobiles phones at Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal under the Telecommunication department to trace and block lost mobile handsets.
