Dimapur — Aggrieved villages along the Nation Highway (NH) 702D between Mariani and Mokokchung headquarters have served a 15-day ultimatum to the concerned department to repair the road and cautioned that failure to comply with its demand would compelled them to ban movement of vehicle on the said road.
In a representation to the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, the aggrieved villages claimed that the repair and maintenance works on NH 702D Mariani-Mokokchung road was neglected by the department concerned department for the last 15 years despite repeated reminders.
“Now that the road condition has come to such a state especially the stretch between Tzurang river and New Camp, that it is almost impossible for small and light vehicles to ply at all,” the representation stated.
It stated the road is the only lifeline through which all materials including essential commodities are transported for public consumption to three districts of Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Tuensang and other adjoining areas. It added that it has become practically impossible for a loaded truck to ply fearing the danger of accidents.
With no option left, the villages have serve an ultimatum to the concerned authority to carry out repairing works within 15 days from the date of this ultimatum. It also cautioned that they would be compelled to impose ban on any vehicle from plying on the said road if the department fails to comply with its demand.
The representation was appended by the convenor of concerned villages, Lendimenba, along with the village council members from Chungliyimsen,
Mangkolemba, Japu, Satsukba, Atuphumi, Merayim, and Changki.
