DIMAPUR— The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Thursday informed that with the onset of monsoon, moderate to very heavy rainfall activity is expected in the state next week.

Heay rainfall is expected across the state from June 16 to the 24th, NSDMA stated in an update.

“However, thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in certain pockets in the districts of Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng during this period. The state’s minimum and maximum temperatures will vary between 17°C and 30°C during this time,” it said.

The NSDMA also urged the public to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period.

It also requested all the district disaster management authorities and other line departments to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.

Further, NSDMA urged the public not to venture out during adverse weather, especially for agriculture work, grazing cattle, fishing and plying boats, as well as avoid travel unless very necessary.

“When thunder roars, be inside safe shelters such as homes, offices, shopping centers, and hard-top vehicles with windows rolled up. If one is caught outside with no safe shelter nearby, immediately get off elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges, or peaks. Keep monitoring local media for updates and warning instructions by various modes of communication,” read the advisory.
