DIMAPUR — A three-day training on Dakshata for medical officers and nurses got underway on Wednesday in the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office in Phek town.

In his welcome address, Dr. Pewezo Khalo, DPO RCH/UIP, highlighted the aims of the training to the participants.

Dakshata, which means ‘adroitness or dexterity,’ is a strategy to strengthen and provide quality care services during and after childbirth through skilled healthcare providers, stated an update from the CMO office.

The main aim of the training was to train the healthcare workers to provide quality service to the mother and child during delivery with an objective to reduce maternal and child mortality during childbirth in all the health Units. The topics of the training would include care of mother and newborn immediately after birth, how to handle prolonged and obstructed labour, ensuring quality in labour room etc.

It informed that dummies would be used to demonstrate normal delivery, newborn resuscitation etc. during the training.

The facilitators are Dr. Pangertemsu, gynaecologist and Obs, along with staff nurses Azole and Velulu from the District Hospital, Phek.
