DIMAPUR — Lapiye Centre for Mental Well-Being (LCMW), in collaboration with Chümoukedima police, organised a mental health awareness programme at Sovima Police Station on May 31.

The special guest and deputy commissioner of police, Chümoukedima, KM Munish, delivered keynote address and the speech on the theme was delivered by resource person and director of Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Rev. Dr. Fr. Joe Mariadhas.

An update from the organisation stated that the resource person highlighted on the difference between normal anxiety and problem anxiety. He informed that psychological state is characterised by tension and apprehension, foreboding and dread and added that stress and anxiety co-exist together like siblings.

He mentioned the causes and symptoms of anxiety and stressed on the urgency to break down the barrier with positive mental health, self-understanding, meaningful relationship to reduce stress and anxiety.

Dr. Aienyla Longchar, psychiatrist at State Mental Health Institute, Kohima, spoke on overview of mental health in medical practice and shared the difference between mental health and mental illness, how stress anxiety effect our body and also mentioned few types of mental illness. She also shared the stress data before and after COVID pandemic.

The programme concluded with 40 minutes discussion where the special guest, high police ranking officers, jawans and invited guest asked questions and discussed on the topic shared by resource persons.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lovitoli Awomi, counseling psychologist and founder of Lapiye Center for Mental Well-being followed with a benediction said by Rev. Dr, Joe Mariadhas.
