Peace can be restored in Manipur only through efforts of stakeholders, says Governor
IMPHAL: A team of former MLAs namely Dr. Ng. Bijoy Singh, O Joy Singh, RK Anand Singh and E Chand Singh called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan on Monday; apprised her of the prevailing situation arising out of the recent violence in the state and urged to take all possible steps to normalize the situation at the earliest.
Former acting chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission, Khaidam Mani Singh, former Judge Nautuneshwari and six advocates; Convener of Committee on Peaceful Co-Existence Manipur, Md Sajjad Bhuiyamayum along with nine others; and a delegation of Aam Aadmi Party led by Yaingamba Sorenshangbam also called on the governor separately on Monday.
Stating that the peace and harmony that have been disturbed in the state need to be restored, the teams urged the governor to put all efforts to bring back normalcy so that peace and tranquillity will prevail in the state.
The teams also lauded the governor for her efforts in containing violence, saying that her effort in providing immediate relief and rehabilitation to the displaced people in the state is welcomed by all.
The governor maintained that restoration of peace and harmony will be possible only with the efforts of all stakeholders in the state.
The Centre has appointed security advisor and Union Home Minister is also monitoring the situation, and necessary instructions are being given. Army, paramilitary forces, and police are working round the clock. Efforts are on to ensure the supply of essential commodities. The administration is also keeping an eye on prices of commodities, it was informed.
Expressing hope that normalcy will be restored very soon with the effort of all the stakeholders, the governor appealed all to put their efforts to establish peace and harmony in the state.
