Manipur violence: Delhi-based student bodies from Northeast urge government to ensure safety of citizens

Dimapur, May 13 (EMN): Anguished by the lost of many lives and destruction caused by the Manipur violence, several Northeast student organisations in Delhi has appealed to the Central and state governments to ensure safety of citizens, prevent destruction of properties, evacuate citizens in volatile areas, provide basic facilities to those in relief camps and rehabilitate the affected people.

Terming the ongoing unrest as a humanitarian crisis, eight student bodies in Delhi from various northeastern states, in a joint statement, said that it calls for effective intervention by the state, while denouncing the failure to act promptly and prevent the situation from escalating beyond control.

However, the student bodies expressed hope that the concerned governments will ensure the safety of the people and called upon all the parties to exercise restraint and work towards restoring peace in the state.

The organizations also accused some sections of the media indulging in publishing false narratives about the violence. “The media, we believe, can make or unmake a society, and we call upon the media fraternity to refrain from propagating misinformation/contorted narratives but rather act as the bridge between people.”
