Parliamentary Committee visits district court in Kohima
DIMAPUR — Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievance, Law and Justice comprising 11 Members of Parliament headed by Sushil Kumar Modi along with officers of the Parliament and department of Justice, government of India, visited the District Court Complex in Kohima on May 9.
An update from Kohima Bar Association (KBA) stated that the team was received by Taliremba, commissioner and secretary of Law and Justice department, along with officers of the department, judicial officers stationed in Kohima district and Kekhriengulie, president of the Kohima Bar Association (KBA) along with his colleagues and advocates practicing in Kohima.
It stated a meeting of all the stakeholders was held wherein the Parliamentary Committee sought to know of the deficiencies plaguing the judicial infrastructure in Nagaland so as to make appropriate recommendations to the Parliament.
It stated various reports and factual position of the judiciary as well as its infrastructure in Nagaland were presented by the officers from the department of Law and Justice as well as by registry of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, judicial officers and the KBA president.

Report stated that KBA president has impressed upon the committee on the need for a separate High Court for the state of Nagaland by underscoring that a separate High Court would consequentially lead to the improvement of the judicial infrastructure as well as the justice delivery system in the state.
It stated that the committee, after taking note of the various concerns, carried out physical inspection of the courts under the district court complex.
