DIMAPUR: It is reported that about 50 tribal villages in Manipur had been burned down by mobs since violence erupted between the Meitei and Kuki communities last week
A reliable source, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared that Kangpokpi district was the epicentre for evacuation of stranded people in Imphal, as the exercise could not be done in other districts.
‘So, about 20,000 people are stranded in Imphal and they can be deported only to Kangpokpi district because the state government did not allow evacuation in other districts, the source said, adding that it has brought of hardships to the districts in terms of evacuation and relief material.
About 4000 people were evacuated from Imphal on Monday, while the CRPF has started mending the National Highway and section 144 of CrPC is still in place but some considerations were made on Kangpokpi due to evacuation process.
The source said that some evacuated persons had nothing, including clothes as their villages were completely burnt down and some without their families.
It was informed that about 15 relief camps have been set up to accommodate the rescued people but camps will be built as lots of stranded people are waiting for evacuation.
