PDSA meet: CASA leads medal tally on day-2
Kohima, April 12 (EMN): Chozuba Area Sports Association (CASA) continue to lead the medal tally,with 24 medals (11 gold, six silver, seven bronze) on the second day of the ongoing 37th Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) meet at Chozuba town.
Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA) trails in second position with 26 medals (eight gold, 14 silver, four bronze) followed by Phek Area Sports Association (PASA) with 11 medals (four gold, seven bronze).
Marking the end of the athletic events, Mulusayi Medeo representing CASA, who is the reigning individual champ, once again won three gold medals in 400m sprint (0.57.25), 800m race (02:12.04) and 1500 m race (4.38.47) to retain the title of best athlete in Phek district.
Choyivelu Nienu (PASA) and Chekrotalu Khusoh (CASA) shared the glory of being the best women athletes, both winning three gold medals each.
Nienu won three gold medals in 100m dash (0:14.53), Long Jump (4.48m) and Triple jump (9.61m) and Khusoh won three gold medals in 800m race (02:48.63), 1500 m race (06:06.47) and 3000m race (15:12.00).
Nagaland’s best discus thrower Venuzo Dawhuo of CAGSA took the gold with his best throw of 36.22 metre. He bettered his record that won him the gold medal in the 2nd Nagaland Olympic Games in 2022 of 35.53 metre.
Vemele Thingo also of CAGSA stood second with 30.96 metre, followed by Huluyi D Vadeo of Centre Chakhesang Sports Association (CCSA) in third place with 29.49 metre.
While in shotput competition, the Northeast gold medalist Venuzo Dawhuo got his second gold medal with his throw of 12.08m; while Vemele Thingo (CAGSA) came in second with 11.35 m and third by Wetso Kapfo with 10.80m.
In men’s football, defending champion Center Chakhesang Sports Association (CCSA) settled for a 1-1 draw against Seceku Area Sports Association in the first match, while Khezha-Kuzha Tephe Sports Association defeated Chokri Area Games and Sports 2-0 in the second match.
The league matches for volleyball and basketball for both men and women are underway.
A total of nine areas namely Chozuba Area, Chokri Area, Phek Area, Centre Chakhesang, Seceku Area, Khezha-Kuzha Tephe, Tizu Area, Phoyisha, Sekrüzu Area are competing in this year’s event with over 800 athletes, which is held once in two years.
