DIPHU: A delegation of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) led by Chief Executive Member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday.
They submitted a memorandum for immediate implementation of Article 244(A) of the constitution for creation of an autonomous state for the hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and NC Hills in the state of Assam, full implementation of MoU signed in 1995 and MoS of 2011 and 2021 signed by different armed groups with the state and Central government, sanctioning of special grant-in-aid for all-round development of the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong and direct funding from the Central government.
After submitting the memorandum, the CEM Ronghang said, “Today we the delegation of KAAC met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submitted a memorandum appraising him of full implementation of MoS 2011 and 2001, to have the direct fund for KAAC by Central government and special package.”
“Definitely, the longstanding demand of the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao i.e. autonomous state is included in the memorandum. The Prime Minister has given a patient hearing to our request and assured us that the points that are mentioned in the memorandum will be discussed by the Central government, ” he said.
Meanwhile, KAAC, Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Dr. Mongve Rongpi told Eastern Mirror, ‘We have met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and submitted a memorandum on various issues firstly on immediate implementation of Article-244(A) autonomous state for Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and NC Hills; full implementation of MoS 2011 and 2001, to have the direct fund for KAAC by Central government and special package.”
‘The Prime Minister received the memorandum and we talked with him for about 45 minutes. The meeting was fruitful,’ Rongpi said.
