Hailstorm hit villages in Karbi Anglong
DIPHU: Following heavy rain in Karbi Anglong for the past three days, hailstorms hit parts of the district again on Tuesday causing damages to properties and vegetations.
Around 20 villages were affected by the hailstorm accompanied by heavy rain that occurred in the Koilamati area of Nilip Member of Autonomous Council ((MAC) constituency.
As per the information provided by locals — between 9 am to 10:30 am — heavy rains accompanied by hailstorms were experienced in the Koilamati area where roofs of houses, utensils, etc. were damaged. Betel nut trees, fruit bearing trees were also said to have been destroyed due to the thunderstorm. Home reared and farm poultries were also affected by the storm.
The storm also caused damages to Terenglangso Presbyterian Church and Bethel Presbyterian Church.
While wild birds were also killed by the hailstorm.
One of the locals of the Koilamati area Simeon Phangcho said that the village headmen (gaonburas) of respective villages are taking assessments on the damages caused by the storm.
