Diphu: Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has banned fishing by electrocution and use of poison in rivers and hunting of wild animals and wildlife in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
In view of rampant illegal fishing by electrocution, poisoning including the hunting of wild animals and wildlife in the twin districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong as reported by the department of Environment and Forest, an order issued by KAAC secretary stated that it would ban illegal fishing by electrocution, poisoning including the hunting of wild animals and wildlife under Section 2 (I), Section 2 (16), Section 2 (16) (a), Section 2 (16) (c), Section 9, Section 27, Section 44, Section 49 (B) and Section 51 of the wildlife protection act, 1972.
The order also stated that the divisional forest officer (DFO) of Karbi Anglong, East Division, and West Division and Hamren Hamren division shall ensure compliance accordingly.
