Global Naga Forum undertakes relief mission to Solo Chiu village

In response to the call for assistance towards the fire ravaged Naga village of Solo Chiu village in Myanmar, the Global Naga Forum (GNF) donated 3750 kg of rice, 300 kg of dal, 350 kg of salt, assorted biscuits and soap for children, clothes for men, women, children, shoes, blankets, utensils, plates, cooking pots, cups, bedlinen, mattresses, pillows and other necessities.

The seven Global Naga Forum relief mission team was led by co-convenor and chairperson of GNF for Nagas in Myanmar, Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu; advisory board members including Abeiu Meru, Miriam Rengma, Kevitho Kera, Azo Wetsah, Chungtin Khiamniungan and Mutsoi Khiamniungan.

The team on arrival in Pangsha village on March 11 held a joint meeting with 11 leaders of Solo Chiu village and other village leaders of New Pangsha and Dan village to discuss the transportation of materials to the affected village, stated an update from GNF.

On March 12, the Global Naga Forum relief team reached Solo Chiu village accompanied by the chairman of New Pangsha village, chairman of Dan village, Angh of Solo Chiu village, Khiamniungan Tribe Council (KTC) members, Solo village council leaders and other volunteer youth from both sides of the border. It stated that the chairman of Solo Chiu village and villagers received the delegation and the relief materials for the fire victim families.

It stated that the GNF team was hosted lunch at the fire damaged residence of the Angh and a brief meeting was held wherein the Angh of Solo Chiu village conveyed gratitude to the GNF team.

He stated that the bond of Naga family beyond all borders and the love they have for each other was exemplified in the long journey undertaken to bring them the much need relief materials. A Khiamniungan dao (machete) was presented to the GNF in a symbolic traditional acknowledgement of friendship with Solo Chiu village.

Meanwhile, GNF has conveyed gratitude to all donors who have responded in cash and kind to the appeal for helping the Solo Chiu villagers. It has expressed gratitude to the Poumai Naga Baptist Churches Association, Poumai Union Kohima, Mao Union Dimapur, Don Bosco College Kohima and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima, staff and students of Salesian College Dimapur, students and staff of Khedi Baptist School, GNF members, families and generous friends who came forward to help the fire-ravaged Naga village so far away beyond the borders.

The GNF has also expressed gratitude to the DGP of Nagaland for helping them with the police truck to carry relief materials to Pangsha. It has thanked Hangchiu, GB of New Pangsha; P Pencho, chairman of New Pangsha village council; Mulai, chairman of Dan village at ITC Dan area; Khunyu member, Khiamniungan Tribe Council who have come together to facilitate the journey to Solo Chiu village.

It has also expressed gratitude to the chairman of Solo Chiu Village, who had facilitated for distribution of relief materials.

Besides, GNF has thanked Dr. Putchong Thai’s family for hosting the GNF relief mission team at New Pangsha village and Nagaland Police driver, Wati Ao, for the yeoman service of reaching the relief materials to Pangsha. It further thanked Lanu, deputy commandant of NAP Battalion in Tuensang for hosting the relief mission team at the police officers’ mess.

It has further thanked all who have supported the relief mission journey with prayers.
