History department of Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) conducted a lecture on ‘Science and Religion’ on March 7 with Rev. Dr. Samuel Richmond, director of Centre for Advance Religious Studies at Northeast Christian University, as the resource person.

An update from the college stated that the purpose of the lecture was to instill new ideas among the students and to touch areas beyond the academic syllabus.

It stated that Dr. Richmond spoke on the importance of both Science and Religion and mentioned that in areas where Science cannot offer explanation, religion comes in and vice-versa.

Quoting Albert Einstein, “Science without religion is lame, and religion without science is blind,” he maintained that human beings need both.

“If Science and religion are properly understood, they cannot be in contradiction because they concern different matters. Science and religion are like two different windows for looking at the world. The two windows look at the same world, but they show different aspects of that world,” he said.

Dr. Richmond also discussed on the issue of conflict between Science and religion.

The lecture was followed with an interactive session and concluded by a vote of thanks delivered by the college’s principal, Dr. RK Behera.
