The department of Power, Dimapur Electrical Division, will be carrying out raids on defaulting consumers — non-payment of electricity bills with arrears for more than two months, theft of power through hooking, tampering of energy meters and pilferage of energy meters.
The department in an update warned the electricity consumers of all categories (government, bulk, industrial, commercial, domestic, VEMB and UEMB consumers) that the exercise will be carried out at various locations under Dimapur Electrical Division, with immediate effect and without further notice.
Electricity consumers of all kinds of categories have been reminded to clear their outstanding bills and to desist from the illegal activities in order to avoid inconvenience.
It further reminded that as per the Indian Electricity Act 2003 Part XIV, Section 135, “any person who uses power illegally shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or with both”.
