Naga people living under shadow of past events — SC Jamir
Former Chief Minister of Nagaland, SC Jamir, on Tuesday, opined that Naga people have lost their vision, character and are still living under the shadow of past events with no political ideology.
He was speaking at the silver jubilee of Christian Memorial Higher Secondary School, Dimapur in the school premises.
He asserted that Nagas have been “talking and talking but they have allowed mushrooming of various organisations and factions, and different factions are singing in different tune”.
Jamir said that when others are talking about scientific, economic, educational development, and competing to achieve, “Nagas are fighting among themselves for nothing, and when people fight for nothing, everything will land in zero; and this is exactly happening in the state.”
He mentioned that the greatest persecution of politics has started today in Nagaland, and it is extremely difficult to talk to any of the leaders because “we do not know where they will be in next hour”. “Because Nagaland people have lost vision, both underground and overground, that is the reason why you cannot remain in one place even for a day,” he said.
He shared that today, it is knowledge which determines the strength of a country and advised to closely watch what is taking place in the world. He lamented that Nagas are yet to come out from their cocoon and march forward with the rest of the world.
SC Jamir added that even the pedagogy in schools has changed tremendously, and therefore “we have to think for the future and the kind of future we want to build”.
He further encouraged reconstructing today for a better tomorrow, and urged the people of Nagaland to keep up with the changes of the world.
