Kohima, Dec. 15 (EMN): Oriental College Kohima (OCK) on Thursday celebrated its silver jubilee at college premises with the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Khriehu Liezietsu, as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Liezietsu has lauded the college on successfully completing 25th anniversary in keeping abreast with others in the field of education, sports, music etc. Recalling that Oriental College had a humble beginning, the MLA lauded on the success of the college, which has now come to own a sprawling campus with a well-developed infrastructure and providing quality education alongside personality development programme.

He also commended the Christian Youth Endeavour (CYE) of Kohima Village Christian Revival Church for their vision and service towards the society in catering to huge numbers of students seeking higher education every year by founding the college.

“Education is the bedrock of development in all aspects of life,” said the legislator and added that that society is at its best when its citizens are educated and civilised.

Further, lauding the efforts of the college for the overall development of the students, Liezietsu exuded hope that the college would grow bigger and stronger to benefit the people.

The jubilee message was delivered by Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzuvichu, principal of OCK, wherein he informed that the college first started with Pre-University Course (PUC) in Commerce with five students in 1997, which was upgraded to BA and B.Com under Nagaland University in 2000.

He also informed that the college has enrolled 8351 students including 4707 in BA and B.Com as well as 5644 students in higher secondary Arts and Commerce in 25 years. He added that 3913 students have graduated from the college.

A college memoir was presented by Theyieneinuo Belho, co-convenor of the organising committee, wherein she highlighted how the college had thrived over the years.

On the occasion, Virie and Kevingunuo presented the college anthem, while Oriental College staff presented a song ‘Embrace the day’ and senior CYE Christian Revival Church, Kohima, and the college choir presented a song.

The programme was led by Dr. Gopal Chetri, vice principal of OCK, while the invocation prayer was said by Rev. Vichulie Kelio, pastor of Christian Revival Church Kohima Village.

Earlier, the special guest unveiled the jubilee monolith in presence of the college governing board, college authority and other dignitaries.
