Diphu, Nov.28 (EMN): The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Monday remembered the first Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the erstwhile Karbi Anglong District Council, KAAC,  Khorsing Terang on his 68th death anniversary.

The observation started with the garlanding of the statue of Khorsing Terang at the old and new Khorsing Terang Memorial Park by CEM, Tuliram Ronghang, Executive Member (EMs) and members of the Autonomous Council.

At the new Khorsing Terang Memorial Park, Chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso; Member of Parliament, Horensing Bey and MLAs Bidyasing Engleng and Dorsing Ronghang also offered floral tributes.

He termed late Terang as one of the great leaders among the Karbis who loved his people and land. ‘It is fortunate to have a leader like Terang among the Karbis and his exemplary life should be followed by all,’ he said.

Padmashree Rongbong Terang, sharing his experience, said it was the help he received from Khorsing Terang that he could be in this position.

The Padmashree recipient said, ‘It was in Class 6, studying in Lanka ME School in 1968, and I have to appear for an exam in Kanpur (Kampur). My father was very poor and I have no money to write for the exam. I approached the then CEM, Khorsing Terang and told him about my requirement. He readily gave me INR 30 which was a sufficient amount at that time. It was through the help given to me by Khorsing Terang that I could get recognition from people for what I am today. I owe him as much as he loves me,’ Terang said.

Another Padmashree recipient, Dhaneswar Engti, sharing about the life of Khorsing Terang said, ‘When Gopinath Bordoloi was the then Prime Minister of the Legislative Council of the Assam Province during 1935, Khorsing Terang was the Member of Legislative Council (MLC). Bordoloi asked Khorsing Terang to vote in his favor and he will be given minister in the Council. But late Terang replied to Gopinath saying, “I don’t need a minister, what I want is a district.”

‘When the late Terang was an MLC he had a love for his people,’ he added.

23 persons recited their self-composed poems on late Terang and other topics.
