Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): Konyak leaders have said the Naga political groups (NPGs) should consider the sentiment of the Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) for a Frontier Nagaland state in the event of an early settlement to the Naga political issue.

This ‘understanding’ was arrived at during a meeting convened by the Konyak Union (KU) and Konyak elders with leaders of various NPGs as well as regional authorities at Mon headquarters on November 17 and the 18th, according to an update by KU.

The Konyak leaders from the negotiating parties of the NSCN (IM) and WC-NNPG apprised the house on the current status of Indo-Naga political talks vis a vis Naga solution, it informed, adding that they deliberated at length on the Naga solution and its possible implication on the Konyak Naga tribe and the Nagas at large.

“The house seriously deliberated and understood that Frontier Nagaland state demand is an aspiration of the ENPO area for a separate statehood to fulfill economic and administrative demands of its region and should not be misconstrued or misinterpreted,” read the update.

“The house understood that both the issues at hand are for a just cause,” it added.

They also ‘welcomed’ the sense of unity and understanding among the Konyak leaders from various NPGs and attending the meeting called by the KU.

The KU went on to express its profound happiness over the conclave held in Kolkata last month between the two negotiating parties — NSCN (IM) and WC-NNPG — under the initiative of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) to sort out differences and bring about an understanding for an inclusive, acceptable and honourable solution to the protracted Naga issues.

The house reaffirmed unity among all Nagas sans the existing geo-political demarcations as a matter of utmost importance and to wholeheartedly support early solution to the Naga political issue.

“The meeting also reaffirmed the 18th December, 2007 Tuensang Resolutions to maintain peace and unity in the ENPO area in particular and in all the Naga-inhabited areas in general,” it stated.
