Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN): Nagaland on Saturday registered its first gold medal in the ongoing 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022 at Shillong as Tenloi Phom won the final of taekwondo event in junior boys under 45 kg category.
He defeated Abhisek Kashyap of Assam in the final to win the gold.
Nagaland’s taekwondo team put up an impressive show on the third day of the sporting event with Elizabeth Ezung (junior girls under 49 kg category), Hinglakpo (junior boys under 48 kg), and Nhumhei (junior boys under 55 kg) winning a bronze medal each.
Men’s table tennis team also won bronze, taking the state’s tally to five and the sixth position on the chart out of the eight states.
Assam continued to top the medal tally with 37 medals, including 12 gold, closely followed by Manipur with 36 medals including 11 gold.
Meanwhile, Nagaland will take on Mizoram in the first semi-final of men’s under-21 football at 11 am today, November 13.
