Dimapur, Nov. 7 (EMN): All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) Dimapur commenced its two-day annual inter-school meet cum volleyball and basketball tournament at Don Bosco Higher Secondary sports complex, Dimapur on Monday.

Speaking as chief guest, Director General of Prisons, Home Guards and Civil Defence, Rupin Sharma said sports is about endurance and helps build character.

Further, Sharma said schools were not only about acquiring education but also about unlearning and relearning new things which will encourage new methods of education and thinking. He said schools should be front runners in teaching students to become better human beings regardless of which tribe or clan they belong to.

Sharma stated that there are many children who are falling into the trap of drugs and also suggested the schools to choose a common day for administering the pledge against drugs and to address this issue, Sharma suggested that the school management in Nagaland to come together and resolve the process, how to deal with the students who take drugs.

Sharma also mentioned that students who abuse drugs should be considered as a disease rather than being outcast and expelling them from schools.

‘The students should be given a chance to rectify themselves, and schools should revise some programmes to take care of the situation’, he said.

Sharma also requested all schools and students in Nagaland to donate books and educational CDs to jail inmates.

He shared that in a meeting with the convicts, books for reading, education, and knowledge were requested;  they reached out to some institutions and received approximately 4000 different types of books. There are 12 jails in Nagaland, and they require approximately 600 sets of books, he said.

Earlier at the event, the welcome speech was delivered by president of ANPSA, Dimapur Unit, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema while the oath taking ceremony was conducted by Dr. R Francis.
