SUMAN scheme launched across Nagaland

Dr. Shikato along with public leaders and healthcare workers after the launch of SUMAN scheme in Zunheboto on Wednesday.

Dimapur, Oct. 19 (EMN): The office of the chief medical officer (CMO) along with the District Health Society (DHS), Zunheboto, launched the Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme during a programme held at the District Hospital conference hall, Zunheboto, on October 19.

Delivering the welcome address, senior medical officer, Dr. Shikato, has highlighted the main aim of SUMAN scheme, which is to reduce and stop all preventable maternal and infant deaths by providing free treatment and quality healthcare to pregnant women and new-born babies.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Heto Swu, DPO (UIP&RCH), has highlighted on SUMAN activities in the district till date. Presenting detail statistics on maternal mortality and infant mortality rate, he stated that there has been a drastic decline as compared to the situation a decade ago. He stated that SUMAN is a collaboration and collective initiation of all the existing programmes like JSY, JSSK, PMSMA.

He further elaborated on the vision of SUMAN, which is to achieve zero maternal and infant death through quality care with dignity and respect. He stated that the goal was to end all preventable maternal and new born death.

According to him, beneficiaries for the scheme are pregnant women and upto 6 months infants.

Speaking on behalf of the administration, Nyamok Konyak, EAC, requested the department officials to rededicate themselves to ensure better healthcare services through SUMAN.

Later, the medical superintendent of District Hospital, Zunheboto, Dr. C Yanpo Kithan, launched the SUMAN facility.

In a related programme, Dr. Imnameren Phom, DIO (RCH/UIP), launched the SUMMAN scheme at Tamlu CHC in Longleng district on October 15 in the presence of Neiloze Tep, ADC of Tamlu.

Speaking at the programme, Neiloze has stressed on the importance of coordination among all the departments for successful implementation of the programme. He further called upon the ASHA and Anganwadi workers to work together. The launching programme was attended by officials from DPM Longleng, NGO, Phomla Hoichem, church leaders, ASHA and AWW, administration and staff of Tamlu CHC.

The Noklak district health society conducted the Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) orientation on October 18 at the CMO’s conference hall.

During the orientation, Dr. Victor, CMO-cum-MS shared on the free and safe services for delivery care and treatment available through ‘Suman Initiative,’ an official bulletin stated. The programme was attended by church leaders, NGOs village health chairmen and health workers.
