Dimapur, Oct. 7 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress (NPMC) launched a toll-free helpline – Support Team for Relief Emergency and Empowerment (STREE), for women in the state at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, on Friday.
The president of Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress, Lucy, informed that any woman in distress or in need of legal help or medical advice, can call its toll-free helpline number 1800-203-0589 for assistance from anywhere in the state.
She said the helpline number is purely a social work operating all over India to assist women in distress and that two volunteers will assist in all districts of the state.
She also appealed to the doctors and lawyers, who want to give voluntary assistance towards this cause, to approach them, saying that their help is required.
Naga issue and election
Meanwhile, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie said at the event that the Congress will bring solution to the Naga political issue if the people vote for the party in the upcoming Nagaland Assembly election.
Claiming that the incumbent government is the road block to the final settlement, he said “nobody can stop us” if there is political will.
‘If the Nagas want to take forward their identity, faith and culture, they have to throw away the BJP alliance,’ he stated.
He also shared that if women want to contest in the election with Congress ticket, the party will provided a special package for them by bearing all their poll-related expenses, adding “we are not worried about funding because we will give them manifesto”.
Pointing out that women have about 50% of vote share, he said they can bring change.
He went on to say that the “18-34 year-old citizens are responsible for the present government because they are the ones who give proxy votes for few amount of money and are selling the future”.
Former Chief Minister of Nagaland KL Chishi urged to have patience and perseverance, saying that the Congress party may be weak in the state currently but it is not so in all the states.
‘As congress men and women, we must stick to our principles and we should know why we are in Congress party,’ he said, adding that they should take pride in the party that played a vital role in the fight for India’s independence under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi.
‘During the Congress rule, there was no division among the people but only unity which no other political has done but under BJP, the country is breaking because of Hindutva philosophy by RSS,’ Chishi alleged, adding that Congress is the only secular party (in the country).
He also stated that women are more influential than man in politics and Naga women are no less.
‘Through women we can build a better Nagaland, prosperous Nagaland and concept-free Nagaland,’ he said.
GK Zhimomi, vice president of NPCC expressed that participation of Mahila is important to make the party stronger. He also congratulated the Mahilas for outperforming men in digital enrolment in the state. Mahila should also look back and connect with the people and party workers and disseminate the ideologies of congress to the grassroot level, he encouraged.
