Dimapur, Oct.6 (EMN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation’s (ENSF) proposed mass public walkathon in all administrative and tribal headquarters under eastern Nagaland is set to commence today, marking the first phase of agitation for the Frontier Nagaland statehood demand called by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation.
A source informed Eastern Mirror that after the peaceful walkathon, a memorandum on behalf of the federating units will be submitted to the government of India (GoI) through the respective district deputy commissioners on Oct. 7, and the next phase of agitation will depend on the response of the GoI.
The public walkathon for the statehood demand has received support from the seven tribal federating units of ENSF — Chang Wedoshi Setshang, Konyak Students’ Union, Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Phom Students’ Conference, Tikhir Students’ Union, United Sangtam Students’ Conference, and Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako. Likewise, the federating units of ENSF will initiate the walkathon in the respective districts.
The public walkathon is expected to witness participants walking out of their respective villages to reach the district headquarters or the programme venue organised by ENSF.
Businesses and offices, both government and private, will be closed during the programme hours, but district administration, police, para military, medical, fire and emergency services have been exempted from closure.
The ENSF’s resolution for the walkathon was adopted during the federation’s emergency federal meeting held at Anatongre village in Shamator district on September 20.
