Polish game publisher, CD Projekt Red (CDPR), on Tuesday announced several projects that are under development including a new Witcher trilogy, a sequel to 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077 and a brand new franchise.

During a recent studio update, the Cyberpunk 2077 developer announced that it plans to release three new Witcher games over a six-year period. Codenamed Project Polaris, the company has revealed that the new Witcher trilogy is set to be developed using Unreal Engine 5. The company has confirmed that pre-production on Polaris just started this year and already has 150 developers working on the upcoming title.

CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher series of games, based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s work, is one of the biggest franchises in gaming and has seen massive success including spin-off titles like Gwent and a hugely popular Netflix series.

“Polaris is a codename for the next installment in The Witcher series of games, which we recently announced was in pre-production,” CDPR tweeted. “It is the beginning of a new saga: we aim to release two more Witcher games after Polaris, creating a new AAA RPG trilogy.”

In addition to a new trilogy, the company is also working on two separate Witcher games codenamed ‘Project Sirius’ and ‘Project Canis Majoris.’ Project Sirius will be developed by The Molasses Flood with support from the CDPR team, set in The Witcher universe. The game is intended to appeal to a wider audience and will have both single-player and multiplayer gameplay.

On the other hand, Project Canis Major is a “full-fledged” Witcher title that will be developed by an external studio led by ex-Witcher developers. The game is believed to be a single-player, story-driven, open-world RPG title that will also be made with Unreal Engine 5.

CDPR is also working on a sequel to 2020’s Cyberpunk 2077 codenamed Project Orion. The sequel will be developed by CDPR’s teams in Boston and Vancouver.

Lastly, the company revealed that it is working on a brand new IP called Project Hadar. The company is creating an entirely new universe for the franchise from scratch and the game is still in its early stage of development.

“A new original IP. For the first time in its history, CD PROJEKT RED is developing an entirely new universe from scratch,” the company wrote in a press release. “Early conceptual work began in 2021. As of the publication date of this document there is ongoing work on the foundations of this world – laying the setting for a third separate product line in the future.”
