Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): A state-level World Tourism Day 2022 was organised at Tourist Resort in Noklak on September 27 on the theme ‘Rethinking tourism.’
Speaking on the occasion, the director of Tourism, Keduosie U Metha, stated that World Tourism Day is observed to celebrate the power of Tourism, stated a DIPR report.
“We need new voices as well as new ideas if we are to transform our sector and build better tourism for all. The potential of tourism is enormous and we have a shared responsibility to ensure it is fully realised,” the director said.
Metha said the purpose of the day was to raise awareness of the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political, and economic values worldwide.
Also speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner of Noklak, Hiazu Meru, highlighted the potential areas of tourism in the district and mentioned that the nascent tourism industry has a huge potential in the Noklak district, if it could be properly tapped.
He appreciated the department of Tourism for celebrating World Tourism Day 2022 in Noklak by organising various events.
Meanwhile, the superintendent of police, Noklak, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, spoke on creating awareness of the various aspects relating to the tourism sector and the potential that Noklak district possesses. Kaur assured full assistance from the Police department for promotion of tourism in the district.
President of Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC), M Thangou, also spoke during the occasion, while the keynote address was delivered by under secretary of Tourism, Wacy Kent.
Tourism potential in Noklak district was presented by Nagaland Tourism Association.
The programme was chaired by joint director of Tourism Veyielo Doulo, and the vote of thanks delivered by senior tourism officer of Noklak, Moatemsu Sangtam.
To mark the occasion, an inter-school painting competition was held on September 21 at St. Paul School, Noklak, on the theme ‘Eco-Tourism.’
Under the high school category, Pungom M of GHS Noklak village won the first prize, while Shongmao of Christian High School, Noklak, and Supon A of GHSS Noklak won the second and third prizes respectively.
Under the secondary school level, Leeng P Should of GHSS Noklak won the first prize, while K Phunyang of GHSS Noklak and Thangio Thai of GHSS, Noklak, won the second and third prizes respectively.
On September 26, a one-day workshop on hospitality management was held in the conference hall of the DC’s office with food entrepreneur, Alemjungla Jamir, and president of NTA, David A Solo, as resource persons.
Report stated that the director of Tourism and DC Noklak jointly launched the rural tourism competition website during the day.
Later, the team from the Tourism department and Noklak District Tourism Association headed to Chiphur village under Noklak district for cave exploration.
