Kohima, Sep. 25 (EMN): Secretary in-charge of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Khruohituonuo Rio, became the first woman to conduct the state assembly session under the Speaker ever since the NLA was first conducted in 1964.
Rio conducted business of the House under the leadership of NLA Speaker, Sharingain Longkümer, during the two-day 12th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on September 22 and 24 in Kohima.
She expressed happiness to have given an opportunity to sit for the proceedings in the assembly hall.
“I am privileged to be the first woman to be given the opportunity,” she told Eastern Mirror.
Emphasising on women empowerment, the official was appreciative of the state government for giving a chance to the womenfolk of the state to be part of the assembly since its inception in 1964.
“I think I have conducted the assembly successfully,” Rio said, describing the experience during the sessions as “exciting.”
Rio, who is an immediate successor to Dr. PJ Antony, former commissioner and secretary of NLA, thanked the Speaker, chief minister and government of Nagaland for reposing trust on her by giving her the responsibility.
Nagaland became a state of India on December 1, 1963, and after election in January 1964, the first NLA was conducted on February 11, 1964.
