Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): A tribal development project on integrated livelihood development for 200 small and marginal farmer households of Porba, Sakraba, Gidemi and Pholami villages in Phek district was inaugurated on September 15 in Pfutsero town.
The project, sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) under the Tribal Development Fund, was inaugurated by Tiakala Ao, general manager of NABARD. An update from the Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) informed that the project would be implemented by the society.
It stated that the project was an establishment of “WADI” (Orchard) to address low-income of the poor farmers. It is an agriculture-based farming system where fruit plants would be planted and other livelihood activities for socio-economic development of the target family.
The project envisaged developing one acre of land for each tribal families with major crops of kiwi and persimmon. It aims to bring in better economic returns through community-led and managed comprehensive livelihood intervention paving ways for sustainable production and marketing practices.
It further mentioned that the project is for 6 years.
