Diphu, Sep.13 (EMN): As part of the recently launched education awareness campaign — Mission-25 — for quality education, Executive Member (EM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), education, Richard Tokbi visited Menmiji High School, West Karbi Anglong in Diphu on Tuesday and interacted with the teachers.

Upon interaction, it was learnt that because of lack of sufficient teachers and students from economically weak backgrounds coming from remotest areas, the school showed zero performance during the recently declared HSLC results. A total of 31 students appeared for the exam but none passed.

The education campaign has been in progress with a joint effort by KAAC, the education department and a students’ organisation.

A comparison of the previous six years’ HSLC results of the school shows in the year 2016, out of 38 appeared, only 8 passed. In 2017 out of 58 appeared, 6 passed in the third division. In 2018 out of 33 who appeared, 5 passed. In 2019 out of 23 appeared, only 1 passed with 4.35 pass percentage. In 2020 out of 22 appeared, 8 passed. In 2021 the school received a record of cent percent pass percentage as 34 appeared were all passed.

At present, the total enrollment of students is 106 where 42 students will appear matric for the 2022-23 batch.

The headmaster Humson Timung informed the EM that there are only eight teachers including two Karbi Language Teachers (KLT), who are monitoring classes 9 and 10.

The headmaster also informed that there are nine vacant posts with no Math, Science and Hindi teachers. And interestingly, to fill up the gaps, the KLT teachers are taking Hindi and Assamese classes.

The EM also visited Kheroni Green LP School, Kheroni Green High School (Recognised) and Kheroni Green ME School (Recognised), Kheroni Girls High School and Kheroni High School, Rangsina high school, Langmepi, Langmepi LP School and Waisong High School in Priloo.
