Dimapur, Sep. 6 (EMN): Jalukie Zangdi Village Council (JZVC) has strongly resented the statement issued by the Western Sumi Hoho for terming the residents as ‘non-indigenous settlers from Manipur state.’

A press release issued by JZVC chairman, Bedusai Thelu-o and the head GB, Kuvehu Vero, stated that the purported statement was humiliating and unacceptable to the citizens of Jalukie Zangdi village.

It clarified that the village was founded by an indigenous citizens of Nagaland namely Late Zashetso Thelu-o of Porba village in Phek district in 1985. It stated that the land was donated by Old Jalukie Village under the agreement signed between Old Jalukie Village Council and Late Zashetso Thelu-o according to customary norms.

The signatories stated that the village was recognised by the state government on October 1, 1991. It added that the citizens of the village are from Chakhesang community and a constituent unit of Western Chakhesang Hoho.

The release further sought from the Western Sumi Hoho to substantiate the fact on what ground the villagers were called ‘non-indigenous’ settlers from Manipur state.
